Insomnia is common, with most people experiencing it at some point in their lives. Insomnia can have a huge impact on a person’s wellbeing and quality of life. Lack of sleep can have an impact on physical health increasing the risk of heart disease and diabetes. It also has a negative impact on mental health, increasing anxiety and stress levels.
There can be physical, environmental and psychological causes for insomnia. Physical causes can include pain, side effects of medications or physical conditions such as heart disease, diabetes or an overactive thyroid. Environmental causes can include the temperature being too hot or cold in the sleeping environment, eating or drinking inappropriate food/drink just before bedtime or not having a healthy bedtime routine. Psychological causes may be past medical surgery, previous night-time burglary or assault.
It is important to address any physical or environmental reasons for insomnia alongside hypnotherapy, which can be used to address any underlying psychological causes for insomnia as well as helping you to relax and drift off to sleep. It could be that your insomnia is related to anxiety or depression, hypnotherapy can be used to treat such conditions which may then have a positive effect on your sleep.
The number of sessions required can vary dependant on the individual’s circumstances. I will be happy to discuss this with you in our initial consultation.
I will send a form to complete prior to our first session. If you are coming for an in-person session, just bring yourself! If we are having an online session, a reliable internet connection and a comfortable place to sit during the session is required.
*Hypnotherapy is an effective tool which can be used to successfully treat a variety of issues; however, success is not 100% guaranteed and commitment from the client is an important part of the process.
Hypnosis is not 100% guaranteed to work for every condition in every person. It depends on the person’s commitment to change and whether the subconscious mind will accept the suggestions made in hypnosis. However, for many conditions, hypnotherapy is highly successful, for example, it is listed as an effective therapy for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Working with the subconscious mind is an extremely powerful tool which can be used to make permanent changes, almost everyone can be hypnotised, however a person cannot be hypnotised if they do not want to be!
Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, insomnia, fears, phobias, pain, infertility, smoking and weight issues. Hypnotherapy can also be used to increase confidence or performance, for example in sport, work or creativity. Hypnotherapy can also be used for past life regression.
This depends on the nature of the goal or desired outcome that you wish to achieve. This can range from a single session or more. Prior to any treatment taking place, a free consultation will be given where a detailed history will be taken and any questions that you have can be answered. The number of approximate sessions needed will be discussed during the initial consultation.
If you have any further questions about hypnotherapy, you may find the answers in some of the most common questions I get here. Further answers can be found on my FAQ’s page.
